The project
Small talk films is a special series designed to share the perspective of global industry leaders. The series will collect short films that illustrate the experience of working environments around the world.
In short, it's a chance for designers to enjoy the uniquely personal perspectives of how other professionals work - learning both how we're different and what brings us all together.
In 2012, we plan to offer Small Talk films in two waves. In March, we will present a fresh round of films from international firms. Come June, in time for Chicago Design Week, we will post another round of films featuring local firms only.
How to participate
We want you to be a part of an ongoing archive where designers all over the world are represented. We believe their collective wisdom can cross cultures and geographies to reinforce what we all share in common: a shared passion for design. And in an even broader sense, we hope this effort will reveal how different cultures can impact our work, our values, and even our world views.
Here's how to get involved:
- RSVP to tell us you'll be submitting a video.
- Select 3-5 questions from our list to answer in your video.
- Take the next few weeks to create a video that is 3-5 minutes long. Follow whatever format you want - do a quick shoot with a flip camera or spend time making animations. Ultimately, we want you to use any method at your disposal
to tell a great story. - Spend at least 60 seconds of your video showing us where and how you work.
Try giving us a peek into what contributes to the vibe of your office or studio. - When answering each question, please state the question in some way within your video and then answer it - how you do this is entirely in your court.
- Upload your video to Vimeo. You'll need to create an account if you don't already have one, but they are free.
- Send us the link to your video and make sure we have your bio.
The deadline for international submissions is March 1, 2012. For our second wave of local submissions, Chicago area firms should complete their entries by May 1, 2012.
