Small Talk VI

50,000 FEET, INC., 50,000 feet, Inc., Chicago

50,000feet, Inc. hosted the year’s final Small Talk on Tuesday, November 6, at their studio in Ravenswood. The usual Small Talk format was abandoned and the night was left undefined. Everyone was free to roam the studio space and experience the firm in their own way. The goal of the night was for guests to “explore and experience what keeps [50,000feet] creative, and see some work [they’ve] done as a result.”

A room displayed slides of “Employee of the Moment,” showing snippets about everyone in the firm. A larger room housed work space. Tags with employee trivia dangled from the ceiling above each desk. A variety of print work was hung up as press sheets on the walls. Most of this work was for long-standing client Mini USA and had a light, humorous tone. A “Motoring Personality Assessment” quiz helped a driver customize their Mini based on how they held the wheel or if they had fuzzy dice hanging from their rear-view mirror.

Another room across the hall contained an army of inflatable lounge chairs with a video of more of their work. A brochure for Miller entitled “The Love of Beer” flashed on screen—another light-hearted piece that showed the “evolution of a beer lover.” Illustrating the breadth of clientele, this was followed by a beautiful annual report for a nonprofit, Sanctuary for Families.

Whatever the client or subject matter, the firm seemed to let their curiosity run wild, and the result was some truly unique work.
