Self Portrait XVI

SELF PORTRAIT, Legler Library, Chicago

The AIGA Self Portrait event is a one-on-one workshop where inner-city children ages five to15 create a life-size self-portrait with the assistance of an AIGA design professional. This project is intended to raise self-esteem, acknowledge the expression of ideas and support the message of creativity for these kids. It is an opportunity where our skills as visual communicators are put toward a worthwhile cause by extending our talents to the young, inner-city population. Traditionally, these portraits have been everything from literal representations to fantasy-like explorations. It is amazing to see how these portraits reflect the environments in which these children live. Both kids and AIGA volunteers come away excited and satisfied by participating in Self Portrait.

Please contact Maggie Lewis at membership@aigachicago.org. Cut-off date for registering to volunteer is February 5, 2005.
