Event Overview
While design is often used to describe an end result, it’s most effectively seen as an action. Design Thinking is an ongoing lecture series devoted to living examples of design in action—those who are reshaping the creative process as we know it.

Field Theory
Through an exploration of design projects in London, workshop classes in Holland and Germany, and recent work at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, James Goggin will discuss a design approach based on the research and analysis of each project’s individual dynamic field: the interdependent contents, contexts and histories which lead to distinct, and often contradictory, results.

About James Goggin
James Goggin founded London-based graphic design studio Practise in 1999 after graduating from the Royal College of Art. In August 2010, Goggin moved to Chicago where he is now Design Director at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Previously he was based in Arnhem, the Netherlands, working as course director and teacher at Werkplaats Typografie and visiting lecturer at ECAL (Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne) alongside commissioned projects from such clients as Tate Modern, Camden Arts Centre, Transport for London, David Kohn Architects and The 20th Century Society. Goggin has lectured and run workshops internationally at various schools and institutions including Rhode Island School of Design, IASPIS Stockholm, Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam, Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel and Royal College of Art London.
